Robert Downey Jr. may have confused many "Iron Man" fans with his most recent denial of him doing another installment of the superhero movie. However, if there's a new flick franchise he's sure of doing again, it is "Sherlock Holmes 3."

The 49-year-old actor confirmed the news during a Reddit Ask Me Anything event to promote his latest movie, "The Judge". He was eventually asked about the existence of another "Sherlock Holmes" movie.

"Yes, we have a Sherlock 3 in development. We want it to be the best of the series, so that's a pretty tall order. Also, Perry Mason is a property I'm looking forward to developing further, going back to the 1931 book series...similarly to what we did with the first 2 Sherlocks, mining the original material for things that are 'new'," he said.

In 2013, Jude Law, one of the cast members of the first two versions of "Sherlock Holmes," hinted about the movie's next installment, reports Digital Spy.

"We had a meeting earlier this year, the three of us, and I think it's being written now. Warner Bros have still got to agree to pay for it... I think they want to!," Law revealed.

In another interview with Empire Magazine, the "Alfie" actor assured the fans that a better and smarter installment will soon be made. He also stated that it is a challenge to get their schedules altogether to be able to start production.

The movie's producer, Dan Lin, had earlier confirmed that Drew Pierce will be writing the script while reports say Guy Ritchie will direct it.

Meanwhile, according to E! Online, RDJ praised another actor who portrays a similar Sherlock Holmes character but on television format, Benedict Cumberbatch. The "Iron Man" actor is also impressed by how the BBC show is written.

The initial film titled "Sherlock Holmes" was released in 2009 which reportedly made $524 million in worldwide charts. In 2011, it was followed by the "Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows" sequel which earned more at $545 million.

'Sherlock Holmes' silent movie version discovered

Several days ago, a 1916 silent movie version of "Sherlock Holmes" was discovered in Paris. According to The New York Times, the ancient movie seems to have been placed in the wrong catalog which starred actor William Gillette in the lead detective part.

With the efforts of Cinematheque francaise together with the help of the San Francisco Silent Film Festival along with donations from Sherlock Holmes fans, the film is going through restoration. It will be released on January 28 during the Toute la Memoire du Monde Festival.
