"Iron Man" and "Avengers" star, Robert Downey Jr., liked "Guardians of the Galaxy" so much that he considered it better than his own Marvel-inspired films.

During an interview with the Toronto Sun, Downey said, "Galaxy in some ways is the best Marvel movie ever."

Yes, this is quite a surprising declaration, and even the "Iron Man" himself could not believe he admitted that.

He quipped, "And it's odd for someone with - on occasion - an ego the size of mine to actually say that!"

He went on to explain his point, saying, "We're talking about how the Iron Mans and the Thors and the Captain Americas and the Avengers movies have afforded Marvel the opportunity to essentially take what was a third-tier, minor, kind of upstart bit of potential from one of their comic books series and say: ‘Look!' "

He didn't stop there. He likened the success of "Guardians of the Galaxy" to winning the Superbowl.

"It's like you have a great quarterback, and his brother plays for another team, and then you say: ‘Look, this is their second cousin and we think he has a great arm and he should start.' And then he goes and wins the Superbowl!"

He didn't forget the work that the studios had put into the mix to make the film successful. He said, "The armature and breadth of what Disney has done in their ability to put things to market is unprecedented."

'Iron Man 4' In The Works?

There is no official word on the fate of "Iron Man 4." According to Screen Rant, the last contract extension included his participation as Tony Stark in both "The Avengers: Age of Ultron" as well as "The Avengers 3," but no mention of a fourth solo film.

The site went on to note that it doesn't mean a film can't be hashed out but if it does come to light, it'll probably have a 2018 release date, making Downey 53-years-old by then.

On the issue of age, the site noted: "the actor - when asked about the future of the character post-Avengers - said he doesn't want to 'overstay [his] welcome' with fans and might retire from the character."

However, the "Sherlock Holmes" actor isn't saying no. When EW! asked him point blank last month if there will be an "Iron Man 4," he said it's all up to the Marvel officials.

He continued to say it's been a great ride and everyone's enjoyed it. "It's that thing of: Why give up the belt when it feels like you can barely get jabbed?" teased the actor. "Most people are saying that right when they get knocked out."

Downey was in Toronto for the premiere of his new movie, "The Judge," during the Toronto International Film Festival.
