Chicago Rapper 'Blood Money' Shot Two Weeks After Signing With Interscope Records

A local Chicago rapper known by his stage names Blood Money and Big Glo was gunned down Wednesday night outside his home in West Englewood, just two weeks after signing a record deal with a major recording company.

According to CBS Chicago, the 30-year-old rapper, real name Mario Hess, was one of several people who were shot in the 5600 block of South Elizabeth Street around 9:30 p.m. He was shot multiple times, including in the chest. His cousin, 28-year-old Darnell Patton, was also was shot in the abdomen. However, he underwent surgery and was in stable condidtion by Thursday morning.

Last month, Hess, a father of five, flew to Los Angeles to sign a record contract with Interscope Records. His cousin, Chicago rap star Chief Keef, and was featured on one of his songs.

"He wasn't one of those types where he felt as like he made it and he was too good for us," said his neighbor, Tarsha Glenn to CBS. "He was right here with us still, day before yesterday. That's how he got killed last night, because he's representing his hood."

A relative said she believes Hess was a target due to jealousy. "He made it. He made it, and they was mad. ... He had a lot of people just jealous of him, and it's sad," Allena Taylor said. "He came from nothing to that, look at him. He didn't deserve that at all; neither one of them, Darnell neither."

According to his publicist, Hess had several songs already recorded for his upcoming debut project and was also just featured on Chief Keef's new hit record "F--k Rehab," reports HotNewHipHop.
