The Miami Heat are expected to pursue free agent veterans in the coming weeks in hopes of solidifying their chances of capturing their third-straight NBA title this season, and one big impact player they could target is former Indiana Pacers forward Danny Granger.

According to Sports World Report, the Heat will strongly consider signing Granger, who was recently traded to the Philadelphia 76ers.

Recent reports indicated that Granger, who was sent to the 76ers for Evan Turner and Lavoy Allen, is expected to be bought out soon.

Sources said that the former All-Star has made a request to the 76ers to release him in order to sign with a title-contending team this season.

"He most definitely wants to play basketball this year," 76ers coach Brett Brown said of Granger's situation. "He is assessing his goals at this stage of his career. He wants to play. I think he is just trying to sort out what is best for both parties and that has yet to be determined."

Aside from the Heat, several teams are also expected to make a run at signing the 30-year-old forward, who averaged 8.3 points and 3.6 rebounds in 29 games with the Pacers this season.

Among the teams that are reportedly interested in signing the nine-year veteran are Western Conference powerhouse teams the Oklahoma City Thunder and San Antonio Spurs.

The Heat are hoping to sign a free agent who could make an impact heading into the playoffs, similar to what Chris Andersen did after he signed a deal with the Heat midway through last season.

In the event Granger stays with the 76ers or signs elsewhere, the Heat are expected to shift their attention to Shannon Brown.

Brown, who averaged 10.5 points in 59 games with the Phoenix Suns last season, could provide a much-needed boost to Miami's backcourt rotation. The high-flying guard played 10 games with the Spurs earlier in the season, averaging just 2.3 points in 10.3 minutes per game.

The Heat are reportedly looking to sign another guard as a precautionary measure since superstar guard Dwyane Wade has been in and out of the Heat's roster due to his ailing knee.

Veteran forward Antawn Jamison, who was released after he was traded to the Atlanta Hawks before the deadline, is also on the Heat's radar.
