MacBook Air owners have reported volume fluctuation during video playback and have taken to Apple's Support Communities for advice.

Sumner89 started the thread on June 21, stating, "I have just purchased a new 2013 13" MacBook Air, and the volume seems to fluctuate by itself when I play back any videos. Does anybody know what causes this? Is there a fault with my Mac?"

Sumner89 uses a 13-inch MacBook Air, which runs on OS X Mountain Lion 10.8.

Fellow MacBook Air owners shared their experiences.

"I, too, am experiencing audio fluctuations while watching Hulu or iTunes Videos. It seems to fluctuate most at the middle audio level, and doesn't do it at very low levels or high levels. VERY annoying!!" wrote tbrumleve.

"I also have this problem with my new MacBook Air 13 - 2013 Haswell," shared ddfall. "The audio problem persists in QuickTime, iTunes, Chrome and VLC. The volume gradually gets louder during playback, then cuts out for a few seconds (completely) and then comes back but at a lower level. This repeats every few minutes. Normal audio > louder > complete drop > back to normal."

As of this morning, KenEGuess wrote that he's experiencing the same issue on his new MacBook Air.

He added, "At first I thought it was me and now I am glad to see it wasn't. I am pretty sure it is software at this point."

Users are encouraged to contact Apple Support for recommendations and if updates by the Cupertino-based organization are underway.
