"Downton Abbey" actress Lesley Nicol has affirmed that the renowned British drama series could have a movie counterpart.

Irish Examiner reported that there are ongoing talks on the possibility of having a movie for the recently concluded TV show, as per Nicol.

The actress, who played Mrs Patmore on the show, said that the "Downton Abbey" writer Julian Fellowes could consider expanding the series into a movie in the near future.

"There is talk of film. He's left it open but it's not like it couldn't carry on," Nicol said in the Irish Examiner report.

But the actress noted that the writer's current work schedule may delay the making of the film.

"It's just whether he has the time, he's busy doing other things. But he's a workaholic so who knows?" she added.

For his part, executive producer Gareth Neame has earlier told Daily Mail that he is interested in making a film based on the characters of the popular TV series.

"I can confirm that there have been rumors that there might be a Downton movie. Our position on that is that would be very interested," he added.

Neame explained that the idea is something that the production team is greatly contemplating.

"It would be great fun to do. I think it would be a wonderful extension of everything people love about the TV show. But I can't confirm that it's definitely going to happen. It would take a lot of planning and thinking about. We shall see," the executive producer added.

Telling the story of the Crawley family, "Downton Abbey" takes place in a classic Georgian country house headed by Lord Grantham.

IMDB said it has become Lord Grantham's mission to keep the heritage of his family in their hometown. The TV show's story begins with the sinking of the Titanic where Grantham's heir died.

It added that a distant cousin and lawyer Matthew Crawley became the next in line and had to move into the family's property.

Since Lord Grantham's children were all girls, this became a concern in who should be the heir to his wealth and pricey estate.

The final episode of the TV series aired on Christmas Day, which millions of viewers greatly anticipated.

Deadline said it was the finale of "Downton Abbey's" spectacular six-season run which outscored competition, as it registered 6.9 million viewers in the United Kingdom alone.

Fans are surely excited for the movie of this highly acclaimed TV show.
