It has been eight years since Matt Damon played the titular role of Jason Bourne in the Bourne franchise. "Bourne 5" is already shaping up to be a strong follow-up to the Bourne series.
In a report with Cinema Blend, Matt Damon is still working on production with the fifth installment of the Bourne series. The actor is reportedly taking a break filming "Bourne 5" to take part in the press tour of Ridley Scott's "The Martian". While details on the upcoming movie are sketchy, here are some details that have been reported about the upcoming film:
1. Jason Bourne is searching for answers to get his memory back.
Damon revealed some details on the plot of the upcoming movie. He revealed that Jason Bourne has lost his memory and he is trying to search for answers on how to get those forgotten memories back. "[Bourne] has his memory back, but that doesn't mean he knows everything. It's 12 years since Jason Bourne has been on the grid. So we have to answer the questions, Where's he been? What's he doing? What gets him going again? So once we solved all that, then we had a movie." said Damon in an interview.
2. Julia Stiles will be back to reprise her role as Nicky Parsons.
Movie Web reported that Julia Stiles has been signed on to reprise her role as Nicky Parsons, who is the primary heroine in the Bourne franchise. Throughout the first three films, Nicky is hinted to have romantic feelings for Bourne. As of the end of "Bourne Ultimatum" the whereabouts of Nicky become unknown once Bourne has made his escape. Nicky will most likely come out of hiding and will be reunited with Bourne.
3. Vincent Cassel will be the new Bourne villain.
"Eastern Promises" actor Vincent Cassel will reportedly play the role of the new Bourne villain. Cassel will reportedly be playing the role of an assassin who is hired to track down Bourne. Cassel won the role over "Lord of the Rings" star Viggo Mortensen. Victor Cassell has been known to be effective in his villain roles throughout his storied career, including the manipulative ballet director in "Black Swan".
Given the success of the Bourne franchise, "Bourne 5" is expected to be a summer hit when it hits theaters next year. To note, the first three films earned nearly $1 billion worldwide.
The upcoming Bourne film will reportedly hit theaters on July 29, 2016.
