Queen Victoria, who ruled Britain for 63 years and 7 months is no longer the longest-reigning queen in the country's history.

As of today, the record goes to the current ruler, Queen Elizabeth II, as reported by Fox News. Prime Minister David Cameron said that this moment will be celebrated by millions of Britons, stating that "Over the last 63 years, Her Majesty has been a rock of stability in a world of constant change and her selfless sense of service and duty has earned admiration not only in Britain, but right across the globe."

He also added, "It is only right that today we should celebrate her extraordinary record, as well as the grace and dignity with which she serves our country."

To commemorate this historic milestone, here are some things you should know about the Queen:

1) Elizabeth II was born as Elizabeth Alexandra Mary Windsor on April 21, 1926 to Albert Frederick Arthur George (Later known as King George VI) and Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon

2) She was only supposed to be destined for marriage, not the throne. However, she arrived at the throne by a twist of fate. According to the Australian Broadcasting Company, her childless uncle Edward III abdicated his throne less than a year into his rule to marry a twice-divorced American woman. Because he was childless, Elizabeth's father George VI suddenly became heir, and Elizabeth inherited the throne from him.

3) Her first prime minister was Winston Churchill, a man who also served in the army of Queen Victoria, her great-great-grandmother.

4) She is somewhat an enigma -- while she has already visited 132 countries, posed for 139 portraits and given thousands of speeches, the 89-year-old ruler is yet to give an interview, making her private life quite a mystery.

5) Her reign had its up and downs, and she was even accused of being out of touch when she remained at her country estate following the death of her daughter-in-law, Princess Diana. However, there has been quite a turnaround in the years since, and allowing her grandson, Prince William to wed Kate Middleton, a commoner she has helped created an image of a modern monarchy.

While Britain celebrates the queen's record rule, she will be spending the day in Scotland on official duties, as reported by BBC. However, PM Cameron will be leading tributes in the House of Commons to commemorate the occasion and a River Thames Salute will also take place, postponing business in the Commons for half an hour.

On the Thames, historic vessels will take part in a procession between the Tower Bridge and the Houses of Parliament. The bridge will also be lifted and HMS Belfast is going to sound a four-gun salute, as a sign of respect for the queen.
