The Neverland gang on “Once Upon a Time” found themselves in a tricky situation last week as Peter Pan (Robbie Kay) managed to convince Henry (Jared Gilmore) to give him his heart. Of course, that wasn’t the only exciting moment in the last episode.

Fans learned of Peter Pan’s real connection to Rumplestiltskin (Robert Carlyle), he’s his father, which makes him Henry’s great-grandfather. As Rumple works to capture his father in Pandora’s Box, he’s tricked and trapped by Pan instead. Talk about a complicated family.

Henry’s two mom’s Emma (Jennifer Morrison) and Regina (Lana Parrilla) managed to put aside their differences and work together to save Henry. Although they manage to reach him in time, Emma, Regina and Neal (Michael Raymond-James) fail to convince Henry that he will not be saving magic but rather making Pan immortal.

In the upcoming episode, entitled “Save Henry,” the magical family will work to save Henry’s life now that he’s without his heart. The episode will also give fans the back story of Henry’s adoption by Regina. Series co-creator Eddy Kitsis shares some intel about Regina’s push for adoption with TVLine.

“This [storyline] started last year in ‘Welcome to Storybrooke,’ when Regina met Owen,” Kitsis said. “We realized that when she cast the curse [that transported the Enchanted Forest’s denizens to Maine], it created a hole in her heart. The curse was not fulfilling for her. She needed something more, something real.” He added that after spending time with Storybrooke guest Curt Flynn’s young son, “She realized that the love she was looking for was in a child.”

In other “Once” news, fans wondering about the Emma-Hook-Neal triangle may have to wait until the trio is able to save Henry’s life for anything substantial to happen in the love department. According to Kitsis, Emma is more focused on saving her son’s life than in anything romantic.

Kitsis told TVLine that Hook and Neal will come to a decision regarding Emma in the Dec. 8 episode. “You’ll see how they’re going to deal with each other and with Emma in, I think, a surprising way,” he added.

As if Emma doesn’t have enough men in her life, Entertainment Weekly also teased that another man from her past will reappear in the mid-season premiere. “Covert Affairs” actor Christopher Gorham has been cast in the role as an “important character in the life of Emma Swan.”

Gorham won’t be the only addition to the cast. According to TVLine, a new character is being cast for the season’s fourteenth episode. TVLine’s Matt Mitovich writes, “For Episode 14, the show is casting the possibly recurring role of a teenage African-American female who comes across as skittish and timid, having had her naturally curious and determined spirit tempered by years of crippling fear. That said, when put to the test, this lass can reach within and summon the strength to be a hero.”

“Once Upon a Time” S3E9, “Save Henry,” airs on Sunday, Dec. 1 at 8 p.m. on ABC.
