"American Horror Story" is definitely returning for a fifth season, but according to FX CEO John Landgraf, the new season will be "very different" from previous ones.

The International Business Times reported that although there has been no official statements on who will and will not be returning for the fifth season, Jessica Lange may have sung her swan song in "Freak Show" as show co-creator Ryan Murphy posted a cryptic tweet that said, "Thank you Jessica...for everything. Always."

It's not just that, though. Before the premiere of "Freak Show" Jessica already told Huffington Post, "I'm going to do the next season [Season 4] of this and hopefully a play and then maybe one or two movies and then I think -- I feel like maybe then it's time to start something brand new in life."

Though it seems that Jessica may not be returning, most of the cast of the horror anthology series expressed their desire to do another season, including Lily Rabe, Michael Chiklis, Kathy Bates, and Angela Bassett.

On the other hand, despite the very big possibility of Jessica quitting the show, Inquisitr reports that there have been gossip of her return next season, but only to a limited capacity, although that could be unlikely, considering Murphy's tweet.

It has also been suspected that season 4's final episode, called "Curtain Call," may have already given a glimpse of the plot for next season, the most obvious clue coming from Massimo, when he refused to run away with Elsa, claiming to suffer from a bone and lung disease that may be caused by radioactive bombs dropped at a test site in Nevada.

With this, fans noted that the next season may focus on Operation Top Hat, which was a classified "local field exercise" designed to test decontamination methods for dangerous elements including nerve gases, radiation, and chemical warfare.

Inquistr also noted that Landgraf himself added to the rumors when he teased the possibility of the fifth season taking place in the present. At the 2015 Television Critics Association winter press tour, he said, "One of the things I love so much about that is that it can be radically, radically reinvented in terms of tone, setting, period, characters, cast."

If it is indeed set in the present, it can also show flashbacks that will open the door for long-gone fan-favorite characters to make appearances. What do you think of the possible plot for next season, does a possibly haunted radioactive site appeal to you for a horror story?
