Carlos Santana thinks that sex and spirituality are two really important things.

In an interview with Yahoo! Music, the Mexican musician claimed that sex and spirituality have an intricate connection with each other.

"They're both extremely important," he said. "When you see a peppermint stick, it's white and red and they're inseparable. You lick both of them at the same time. It's the same thing [with sex and spirituality]. They're inseparable."

The "Black Magic Woman" hitmaker also gave his thoughts about how Americans are getting the message of sexuality across.

"Especially here in America, people tend to make the word 'S-E-X' into something that 'Ooh, you should wash your hands or you shouldn't say,' or whatever," Santana said, as quoted by the news outlet. "People in Europe see [sex] as a gift from God. It's a double standard we have here in America, because every commercial we have is promoting that, but in a vulgar way. But in Europe, they look at it as natural as taking a bath together or sleeping together or jumping into the ocean together.

He added, "I think we have a lot of growing up to do here in the United States with that particular word."

Santana also thinks that the answer to shifting mentalities about sex is through education. The 67-year-old guitarist told Yahoo! Music that sex should be taught to children in schools along with the lessons about spirituality. The musician founded the Milagro Foundation in 1998, which helps underserved and vulnerable children around the world.

"I think that if we teach people in school sex education from the point of being sacred and delicious, we'd have a different approach to how we share it with women or men," Santana explains to the news outlet. "It would be on a higher level of expression than blowing your boogers on a napkin or something like that. It should be very - here come three words - holy, sacred, and divine."

Carlos Santana to Perform in the Final Curtain of Tajin Summit Festival

In celebration of its 16th edition, the 2015 Tajin Summit Festival will feature Santana as one of its final acts to be held at Takilhsukut Park on March 19-23, Fox News Latino reported.

Santana will perform onstage alongside Javier Batiz. The two started playing electric guitars together in the 1950s, the news outlet noted. However, this would be the duo's first time to share a festival billing.

The festival will last for five days and will feature around 7,000 Mexican guest artists as well as several international musicians. It will also offer more than 5,000 cultural activities including workshops, conferences, expos, and kiddie shows, Fox News Latino added.
