The Texas Rangers secured the services of one of their key pieces after pitcher Martin Perez agreed to a four-year deal that will keep him tied up with the club through the 2017 MLB season.

According to TL Sullivan of MLB.com, the left-handed pitcher happily accepted the four-year contract offered by the Rangers worth $12.5 million, including three option years.

Those three years will be applicable from the 2018 to 2020 seasons, which could lead to huge savings for the Texas or have Perez earn up to $32.55 million over the next seven years.

"I don't ever want to forget this day. This is the most important day of my life," Perez said. "I want to thank the Rangers organization for trusting me and giving me the opportunity to stay here for at least four more years. I want to stay here my entire career. I'm still going to be the same person. I want to do my best and help this team compete for the World Series."

Meanwhile, with four of their projected 2014 starters signing a long-term deal, free agent catcher Brian McCann expressed interest in signing with the Rangers.

The Rangers recently signed Geovany Soto to a one-year deal as their regular catcher, but McCann's view of the Rangers remained the same.

McCann's agent BB Abbott revealed that the Rangers are also interested in acquiring the seven-time All-Star.

"From Brian's standpoint, it's certainly an attractive place for him," Abbott said in an interview with MLB.com when asked about the possibility of McCann signing with the Rangers. "He's a left-handed power-hitting catcher who likes to handle a mature and quality staff. They have a good front office and a good coaching staff. He would be crazy not to look at that as a landing spot. It would be a great situation."

Despite signing Soto to a one-year, $3.05 million deal, Rangers general manager Jon Daniels said that they are still looking to sign one more catcher.
