Kell Brook, could be Floyd Mayweather Jr.'s next opponent. Brook's chances of securing a match vs the undefeated champ increased after he snatched the IBF welterweight title from Shawn Porter on Saturday via a majority decision win in Carson, California.

Mayweather rematch vs Marcos Maidana is set in September. Who Mayweather will fight next is still unknown.

But, according to Sports World News, Eddie Hearn, immediately planned targeting higher-profile fighters to go against Brook in order to earn more money for the boxer. The promoter noted that Brook is "going for the jackpot" with a possible Brook vs Mayweather Jr. next year.

"I think you have to say Kell is now in the running to face Floyd Mayweather. Everyone in the division wants to fight Floyd, but if you hold a world title then you are more likely to face him than if you don't," Hearn was quoted by Sports World News as saying.

In a response to Hearn's call, Mayweather Promotions CEO, Leonard Ellerbe, said that Brook is considered a "player" now.

"Guys who win titles in the division become players. He put himself in that position," he added.

The Mayweather Promotions CEO added that pairing the two will be a smart business move but noted that they are currently focused on fighting Maidana.

Meanwhile, East Side Boxing said that Brook still needs to make a name in the boxing scene before planning to go against bigger fighters like Mayweather. The report added that he is a fighter which most Americans are not yet familiar of. As a result, the fight may not sell well.

Brook reportedly also expressed his intention to fight Amir Khan but Al Haymon, Khan's adviser, said that they are currently grooming Khan for a Mayweather fight.

In a similar report, City AM discussed that Brook is currently the No. 4 contender in the welterweight division and above him are Juan Manuel Marquez, Timothy Bradley, Manny Pacquiao and Mayweather.

It added that Brook is indeed the only fighter in his division with world title belt next to Pacquiao and Mayweather. He remains unbeaten in all his 33 fights and has won 22 of them via knockout.

City AM also said that a fight between Khan and Brook is possible, as Khan expressed his interest to face Brook in U.K.

A fight with Mayweather, however, is "pretty unlikely, but stranger things have happened," City AM noted.
