California is so big. So big in fact that if you split it six ways it's possible to create the best and the worst of the United States. The Six Californias plan is a move that would reportedly create the richest and poorest states in the country. But first a petition signed by thousands of registered California voters is required to put it into action. The petition requires over 807,000 signature, and the due date is July 18.

California venture capitalist Tim Draper has reportedly gained enough petition signatures to put a controversial plan to break up the state of California. Citing poor government and politicians that are out of touch with the voting base, Draper has said the plan would go before state voters in 2016.

As the website Vox.com explains, "If Draper's signatures are sufficient to qualify the proposal for the ballot, then expensive advertising campaigns will be waged to try and sway California's voters, and political consultants will make a lot of money. But even if it does manage to pass - without winning Congress's approval, California can't split apart."

Some other problems could come from having to deal with interstate commerce between California businesses. Families would lose more than $2 billion because the state university systems would be broken up.
Silicon Valley would have the largest per capita income in the country, while Central California would have the lowest.

The plan calls for the more well-known areas of the state to be split up as follows:

North California

This state would be wine country, with Sonoma and Napa, and the Sierra Nevada region. 

Jefferson

The northern California, with Humboldt and Medocino county. 

Central California

This California would be farm region, with Tulare and Fresno county. 

West California
This state would rest south of Silicon Valley and Central California, and west of San Bernardino County. Santa Barbara, San Luis Obispo, Los Angeles and Ventura, would be its counties.

South California
This wouldn't be the SoCal as we know it now. This south most tip of the region would be made up of Imperial, Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino and San Diego counties.

Silicon Valley
The richest portion of the coast would run from San Franciso to Monterey and encompass the pristine beauty of the Bay Area with eight counties. Those counties would be Alameda, Contra Costa, San Benito, San Francisco, San Mateo, Santa Clara, Santa Cruz and Monterey counties.
