Vince Gilligan, the mastermind behind the hit TV series Breaking Bad, opened up to reporters on Friday taking most of the blame for the delay in the spinoff series, Better Call Saul.

The show, an offshoot of Breaking Bad, will take place before Walter White meets Saul Goodman. The immense success of Breaking Bad has made Better Call Saul the most anticipated television show of 2015.

On Friday at the Television Critics Association press tour in Beverley Hills, Gilligan opened up as to why the new show has been delayed for so long.

"I'm going to take full responsibility on this," said Gilligan. "We could have made deadline, but I am very slow. I am slow as mud as a TV writer."

While other wildly successful television series have had spinoffs, none have been met with much critical acclaim. When Friends ended, producers offered up the spinoff series Joey, which featured Matt LeBlanc's character.

The series didn't make it out of its first season.

In this case, however, Vince Gilligan promises fans that Better Call Saul will be a stand-alone project.

"We're trying to make something that stands on its own that has an entertainment value that is not just about seeing a series of old favorites," Gould said. "It's not the series equivalent of a clip show. We're trying to balance these things out"

Details about the shows plotline are scarce, but Gilligan addressed details about the shows style and the narrative angle.

"You saw from 'Breaking Bad' that we like nonlinear storytelling," Gilligan said. "We like jumping around in time. I would definitely point you in the direction of 'anything that was possible storytelling-wise on 'Breaking Bad' is possible on 'Better Call Saul.' "

Fans will have to wait for the new spinoff series to kick off next year.

"It's a leap of faith or stupidity into the unknown," Gilligan said.
