A California high school student could face deportation after selling brownies laced with marijuana to pay for her prom dress. 

Saira Munoz, 18, sold pot brownies to her classmates at River Valley High School in Yuba, Calif., CBS reports. 

She reportedly hired a middleman--one of her peers--to sell the pot brownies for her. Her friend was going to receive a portion of the profits from the brownie sales. 

Her illegal business was discovered when a student fell ill from one of the brownies, and was taken to the hospital in an ambulance. 

Munoz was arrested and served nine days behind bars. She was convicted of felony child endangerment and misdemeanor possession of marijuana on school grounds after she admitted to selling the brownies. 

Munoz's residency status in the U.S. is now jeopardized because she hired her friend--a minor--to sell the brownies, which is a felony offense. 

According to CBS, Munoz moved to the U.S. from Mexico with temporary permission in 2000. Federal officials have been notified of her conviction. 

Her classmates described Munoz as a "very positive person" who "deserves better."

"People make mistakes," said Carlos Robles, a classmate and friend of Munoz. "I was hurt because she was arrested, and nobody wanted to see somebody we cared about go away."

"I don't like the turnout of this," Robles said.
