A dark, mysterious force began to move into the French court on the latest episode of "Reign."

In "The Darkness," King Henry (Alan Van Sprang) begins to display psychotic behavior. He is rough with Mary's (Adelaide Kane) lady-in-waiting, Kenna (Caitlin Stasey), then forces her to have sex with a prostitute as he watches.

Kenna then wakes up to see that the prostitute was strangled while she was sleeping.

Kenna turns to Catherine (Megan Follows) for help. Catherine helps Kenna cover up another one of King Henry's murders. Catherine keeps an eye on him, and sees that his erratic behavior means he may have a serious mental disorder.

Meanwhile, Nostradamus (Rossif Sutherland) has been hiding Olivia (Yael Grobglas) and helping her heal. He performed a "ceremonial baptism" on her to clear her from evil.

Lola (Anna Popplewell) is pregnant with Francis' (Tony Regbo) child, and is hiding it from everyone at court--including Francis. Mary tries to find a husband for Lola so she can get married and have Francis' baby and pretend it's her husband's.

Mary finally lashes out at Lola, her best friend, for having her husband's baby.

At the same time, Mary is trying to conceive with Francis, but it is proving to be a difficult task. They share a romantic love scene to continue their efforts at conception.

Leith (Jonathan Keltz), the kitchen servant who is in a forbidden relationship with Greer (Celina Sinden), leaves for Spain to work for Greer's suitor, Lord Castleroy. It turns out that Greer set up the job so they would break up.

Meanwhile, Bash (Torrance Coombs) is still in the woods spending time with a huntress, Rownan. Rownan and her family, who are pagans, are now marked for helping Olivia, meaning the "darkness" or "the beast" comes for them.

Rownan looks the beast in the eyes and gets dragged away into the night. Bash decides to return to court to seek help.

Anna Popplewell, who plays Lola on the series, spoke to TVLine about her character's pregnancy and the impending "darkness" at court.

She said that Lola and Mary will try to avoid having Francis find out about the pregnancy. While Mary will not fully forgive Lola, Popplewell said that she will learn to understand how remorseful Lola is about what happened.

"It wasn't a brilliant decision on Lola's part, or Francis's - it does take two to tango," Popplewell said. "But I understand where it came from. There was originally a speech in that episode where Lola talks to Francis about Colin, who was killed, and also the death of Aylee. These characters were really connecting out of sadness. Anyway, I don't think Mary will forgive her, but I think she'll come to understand how sorry Lola is about it and how little she wants to threaten their marriage."

Popplewell also hinted that there will be more time jumps between now and the end of the season, meaning Lola could potentially have the child by the end of season one.

She also said that major deaths are "always a possibility." "Life expectancy was not the same then as it is now, so people are really dropping like flies," she added.

And as for Mary's future with Bash, she said, "There's something very exciting that happens in the next few episodes that will alter the balance of that situation."

On the next episode, "Monsters," "When Francis reluctantly agrees to help Bash uncover the threat in the woods, he ends in grave danger, with only Bash to save him. Meanwhile, the King's madness causes chaos when a servant (guest star Kathryn Prescott) wins "Queen for the Day," and the King becomes obsessed with her. The King also forces a surprising, and unbreakable, union with a new couple at Court. Meanwhile, Greer gets caught kissing kitchen servant Leith, which threatens to ruin her."

Watch the promo for "Monsters" below, which airs Thursday, March 27 at 9 p.m. EST on The CW.
