The Chicago Bulls are expected to make a run at signing a superstar in the offseason, and they could end up signing Illinois native Dwyane Wade if he decides to test free agency this summer.

According to Fox Sports, the Bulls are one of the most likely landing spots for Wade, who could opt out of the final year of his contract after the current season.

Previous reports indicated that the Miami Heat's "Big Three" of Wade, LeBron James, and Chris Bosh were making their final run together this season. And whether or not they bag their third consecutive title this year, at least one of them could decide to sign elsewhere.

In the event all three decide to opt out of their contracts only to secure longer deals with the Heat, sources said that the Heat will likely offer maximum contracts to James and Bosh, leaving Wade with no other choice but to accept a lower salary or find a team where he could get a max deal.

Fox Sports noted that Chicago could be that team. While Wade is expected to prioritize re-signing with the Heat, sources said that the Bulls could offer Wade a max contract to convince him to bolt out of Miami in the offseason.

"The possibilities are endless with Miami, but the early scuttlebutt is James and Bosh will get the max, and the breaking-down Wade will take less. That's all speculation, of course, and even if true, Wade may feel differently if someone (read: the Bulls) overpays him based on what he once was," Fox Sports reported.

The Bulls, who made it no secret that they will look to sign another superstar as Derrick Rose's partner next season, previously made a strong push to acquire Wade in 2010.

The Bulls felt that the Chicago-born Wade was bound to sign with his hometown team, but the All-Star guard opted to return to Miami and recruited both James and Bosh. Wade's decision worked wonders for him as he captured his second and third NBA titles over the past two seasons.

However, it should also be noted that Wade is not as explosive as he was back in 2010, creating doubts about the Bulls' willingness to overpay him.

Wade, who is averaging 18.8 points to go along with 4.9 assists and 4.9 rebounds a game this season, has been in and out of the Heat's roster this year as he is continuously dealing with an ailing knee.
