The Northeast did not get a reprieve from cold weather for long.

Another snowstorm slammed the Northeast on Monday with heavy snow affecting the morning commute, with a forecast of 10 inches expected in parts of the tri-state area by the end of the day. Heavy rain changed over to wet, heavy snow early Monday. According to USA Today, forecasters expect as much as two inches per hour until the afternoon.

Winter storm warnings have been issued for New York City, Long Island, New Jersey, Philadelphia and the Washington, D.C. area until 7 p.m. The National Weather service cautioned residents against traveling on the roads, except for in an emergency.

New York's Department of Sanitation also issued a snow alert.

The storm hit after the end of Super Bowl XLVIII in New Jersey, but out-of-towners could still see flight delays. The area has one of the busiest airports in the nation, which is also prone to flight delays and cancellations.

More than 260 flights were canceled at Newark's airport, and more than 165 were delayed at LaGuardia. Philadelphia's airport had 145 departure cancellations and more than 130 arrival cancellations. Washington Dulles and New York JFK also had a high number of flight cancellations.

Travel will become more difficult along the I-95 corridor from southern New England to New York City, Philadelphia and Washington, D.C. as the snow continues to accumulate.

Snow and ice could also create hazardous driving on stretches of interstates from West Virginia to southern New England.

The National Weather Service also said the storm could bring as much as 10 inches of snow to Ohio, and one to three inches in the Boston area.

The winter storm is expected to move out of the Northeast late Monday. However, the snow will only stop temporarily. Another winter storm is forecast to hit the tri-state area again on Wednesday, with another chance of snow on Saturday.
