While Android device manufacturers such as Sony and HTC have been somewhat vocal about their Android 4.4 KitKat plans, Samsung hasn't said a single word of when KitKat will land on its flagship devices. In a surprise move, however, the popular South Korean electronics manufacturer began pushing out Android 4.4.2 KitKat for the Galaxy Note 3 phablet.

The Android 4.4.2 KitKat update, build N9005XXUENA6, applies to the Galaxy Note 3 model SM-N9005, which is the quad-core Snapdragon variant. The update was first spotted via Samsung's KIES software in Poland, although an over-the-air rollout should be on its way as well. As usual, the release of Android 4.4.2 KitKat for the Galaxy Note 3 will vary by region and carrier, so not everybody will immediately be able to download it. Still, it shouldn't be too long before more Galaxy Note 3s are running Android 4.4.2 KitKat.

The Samsung Galaxy Note 3 Android 4.4.2 KitKat update brings the usual security and performance boosts that one expects from a new Android as well as a cleaner, flatter-looking interface. Default messaging apps and default launchers can now be selected from the settings menu, and Samsung has added more emojis for those interested. The update also makes it possible to print wirelessly with Samsung's printing service or HP's. Galaxy Gear users will have to update Gear Manager up to version 1.6 in order for it to work with KitKat.

An official changelog containing all of the new content in the Android 4.4.2 KitKat update for the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 can be found here.
