Apple's iPad Air 3 was notably absent from this year's roster of new Apple products. Despite the recent launch of the iPad Pro, the successor to the iPad Air 2 is reportedly still in the works.

In a report with Tech Times, the highly anticipated follow up to the iPad Air 2 was expected to be part of the among the line-up of new Apple products during Apple's unveiling event held back in Sept. 9. The iPad Air 3 was not mentioned during the conference after Apple showcased the iPad Mini 4 and the iPad Pro. With the release of the iPad Pro, many had speculated that an iPad Air 3 was not going to happen.

There are persistent rumours that the iPad Air 3 will be released as early as March of next year, even if Apple made no mention of an upcoming follow up to the previous iPad Air back in September. There are already some speculations as to what the iPad Air 3 will be like and what features Apple fans should expect from the upcoming tablet.

It was reported by Tech News Today that the long awaited tablet will sport a 9.7-inch screen and 4K resolution of 2334 x 3112 (401 ppi). The iPad Air 3 is also rumoured to rock an IP rating for water- and dust-resistance. The iPad Air 3 is expected to sport a 3D Touch technology for added functionality and will be more powerful and thinner than the iPad Air 2.

The iPad Air 3 will reportedly be 20 percent more powerful than its iPad Air 2 predecessor. While the iPad Air 2 was powered by an A8X chip, the iPad Air 3 will reportedly be powered by an A9X chip. Following the success of the sales of the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus, the iPad Air 3 might also sport a Rose Gold limited edition version.

Other rumoured specs of the iPad Air 3 include an 8-megapixel iSight camera, as well as a 2-megapixel front camera. The device will come with Touch ID for added security features. Storage options are to be expected to come in 16 GB, 32 GB, 64 GB and 128 GB options. The iPad Air 3 will reportedly be cheaper than the iPad Pro and will be priced at $610.

While Apple has not given an official announcement as to a release date of the iPad Air 3, tech analysts are already speculating that the iPad Air 3 will be released in March 2016. Since there are no official announcements yet, treat all rumours with a grain of salt.
