Amy Winehouse was a magnificent singer with a tragic story, which means that she's getting a biopic.

The film, which The Hollywood Reporter said is simply called "Amy Winehouse" is said to be written and directed by Irish filmmaker Kristen Sheridan, and Noomi Rapace is in talks for the titular role.

She is an actress in her own right, but as Bustle pointed out, there is one very big question about her potential role as Winehouse: Can Roomi Rapace sing?

According to the outlent, Rapace took up theater in Stockholm, but it's unclear whether or not her training included extensive vocal lessons. Although she has done a lot of acting in Sweden and in the US for almost two decades, her high-adrenaline movies are a far cry from song and dance productions, which is equally important at this point, as she will have to belt several of Winehouse's iconic songs in the film.

If past projects are indicative of Rapace's talent, Bustle noted that this is not the first time she's been approached to play a singer, which could mean that maybe, just maybe she can pull off being Amy Winehouse.

Shortly after the 2011 Sherlock Holmes sequel was released, she was announced to star in a movie based on the life of Anita Lindblom, who happens to be an iconic Swedish singer, although the project seems to have been cancelled. After that, she as also tapped to star in a biopic about opera singer Maria Callas, who once had a 20-year-affair with shipping magnate Aristotle Onassis. "Callas" is currently in pre-production and is looking to be distributed at next year's Cannes Film Festival.

The biopic will not be the first project about Amy Winehouse, though. As noted by THR, the life of the iconic songstress has already been laid out neatly in a documentary titled "Amy", which premiered at the 2015 Cannes Film Festival and reviewed as one of the best movies of the year, surpassing all expectations when it went past the $25 million mark.

However, Amy's father, Mitch Winehouse has been vocal about being against the documentary, which could also affect in turn the upcoming biopic. As Bustle reported, if Mitch Winehouse refuses to give producers the rights to his daughter's songs, no music from the artist could make it in the film. This situation came up in 2013 when a Jimi Hendrix biopic did not actually include any music by the iconic artist due to property rights issues.

If that will be the case for the Amy Winehouse biopic though, Rapace will not have to worry as to whether or not she can belt out Winehouse's iconic songs. However, do you think she can dish it all to give justice for her role as Amy Winehouse, or do you think autotuning and dubbing will be a thing in this film?
