It's been eight years since we last saw Jason Bourne, but according to Entertainment Weekly, Matt Damon is returning for the fifth installment of the series.

Day 1 has just wrapped up and producer Frank Marshall shared a photo of the shirtless star and shared it on Twitter, showing a buffed up Damon, who didn't look out of shape at all despite the fact that the last "Bourne" film he took part in was in 2007. In the photo, a very fit Jason Bourne is wearing bandages around his fists, which, according to Forbes, implies that he's been street fighting, probably in a foreign country.

As the news outlet noted, the last time fans saw Bourne, he was still on the run from the U.S. government, so it's not a going to be a big surprise if he ends up overseas.

On set with Damon, as reported by E! News, is his personal trainer, Jason Welsh. Welsh told E! Last month about Damon's training habits, "Matt is absolutely the best client anybody could ever hope for. He is hard working and he is funny as hell. So we keep it light, but we work really, really hard."

Also back on the franchise are Paul Greengrass, who directed "The Bourne Supremacy and "The Bourne Legacy."

So what does this mean about "Avengers" actor, Jeremy Renner, who fronted the last film in 2012? According to Cinema Blend, the continuation of Aaron Cross's story will have to take the back burner for now, although the outlet noted that it isn't canceled -- just pushed back.

This is because the director for "Bourne Legacy" Justin Lin is inheriting the "Star Trek" franchise and is busy with that project, so producers decided to return with the original storyline with Jason Bourne as the lead. There is also the possibility for a Bourne and Cross beatdown or wait it out until Lin would be available for the "Legacy" sequel.

Forbes also noted that "Legacy" did not make as much money as the original "Bourne" storyline did -- actually, it made around half as much. Damon and Greengrass did not fare so well either, as their last team-up project "Green Zone" was an outright flop, with Damon bringing in a lot of disappointing movies over the years.

The yet-to-be-titled fifth installment of the "Bourne" series is set to be released mid-2016. Are you excited to see Matt Damon reprise his role as Jason Bourne?
