Kerry Washington is not obsessed on immediately returning to her pre-pregnancy figure.

In her cover story for SELF magazine's September issue, the "Scandal" star revealed that she's working out, but she doesn't necessarily do it to get back to her pre-pregnancy body.

"I've been really focused on not being 'back' to anything, but being the best version of myself right now," Washington told the publication, as quoted by PEOPLE. "My body is the site of a miracle now. I don't want to be pre-miracle."

The actress even recounted how her manager told her that her body was "back" to its old shape. And though the statement was a positive one, Washington admitted that it unsettled her.

"She meant it as a total compliment, but we had this great conversation where I was like, 'You know what? I try really hard not to use that language, because it's not about going backward in life,'" the TV star told SELF magazine.

Washington, 38, gave birth to her first child, Isabelle Amarachi, in April 2014, a separate report from PEOPLE wrote. She is married to former San Francisco 49ers cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha. The couple tied the knot in a secret wedding ceremony in July 2013.

"I try to get it in so I can be back with my kid early," Washington said of her exercise routine, as reported by PEOPLE from SELF magazine. "I have to take care of myself in order to live life the way I want to. It's important to have rest days. But in the long run, if I don't work out for, like, three days, I feel worse, not better."

The new mother works out six days a week with her trainer, Julie Turner. Washington even has a small space in the "Scandal" studio built specifically for the star's intense exercise routines, which includes Pilates that brings out her "true self," Popsugar reported from SELF magazine.

Washington also said that portraying Olivia Pope on "Scandal" has its own effects on her personal life, and she shares similarities with the character.

"It makes my heart smile to think that maybe part of the reason I'm taking all this on is because of Olivia. She truly believes that she can handle every situation, and I do feel that has bled into my life. I have more of a sense of my capacity to do anything," the actress told SELF, as reported by PEOPLE.
