Halo: Spartan Assault, the mobile game originally released on the Windows 8 Phone as well as Windows 8, will be making its way to the Xbox One console in time for the holidays, as it will be release on Christmas Eve, Dec. 24 according to The Verge.

The game was originally released in July, and quickly became one of the most popular games to come to the Windows 8 phone. The game was offered for $6.99 when it was released for Windows 8 devices, but the game will be a little more expensive on the Xbox One at $14.99. A version of the game for the Xbox 360 will be released as well, but will not be ready until January 2014. Those who purchase the Windows 8 version of Halo: Spartan Assault will be able to buy the console version for a discounted price of $4.99.

The game was developed not by 343 Industries, who developed Halo 4, but by a different studio named Vanguard Entertainment. The game was a top-down shooter, making it a bit of a departure for the series. Despite these changes the game managed to be quite the success, and the game allows users to experience more Halo action as they wait for the next promised entry in the series sometime in 2014.

The new version of Halo: Spartan Assault will have some new features that will allow users who have already beaten the game experience some new thrills while attacking the Covenant. The game will have an online co-op mode that will allow two Xbox One users to defeat waves of aliens together. Original missions will also be included with the console version of the newest Halo title. However, those hoping to play the game through local co-op during their Christmas celebrations are out of luck.

While fans may be excited to play this Halo spin off title, many fans are still waiting on news about Halo 5 or whatever Halo game 343 Industries is working on currently. During E3 in June, Microsoft hinted that a new Halo title would be coming to the Xbox One sometime in 2014, but refused to clarify if the game would be a continuation of the series or a spinoff or prequel game. This means that the game could end up being a game such as Halo: Reach or Halo: ODST rather than Halo 5.
