"Game of Thrones" showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss revealed that flashback scenes to the past of Westeros will be a part of the show's fifth season.

According to a report from Entertainment Weekly, Benioff and Weiss announced the news during a Q&A session with film students in Spain, where they are currently shooting scenes for the fictional region of Dorne -- one of the chief places in the "A Song of Ice and Fire (ASoLaF)" universe. ASoIaF is a fantasy book series written by George R. R. Martin which "Game of Thrones" is based off.

Entertainment Weekly also reported that the flashbacks will serve as the fifth season's opening scene.

The quote from the showrunners, which is roughly translated from a Spanish website, says, "By making the first season, we set a rule: No prophecies, dreams or flashbacks. We failed the first two and this season the third. So yes, this season will finally have flashbacks."

Benioff and Weiss said that they want to keep a continuous plot and explore the rick folklore and history of the Seven Kingdoms through dialogue. But they have delved away from their rules several times in the hit HBO show, especially when Bran Stark, a major character on "Game of Thrones", started having dreams, prophecies, and magical abilities in the previous seasons.

Several reports about the fifth season of "Game of Thrones" continue circulating online. Tweets surfaced back in May about casting a young Cersei Lannister on the show, reported Mashable

Charles Dance, who plays Tywin Lannister on the show, was also reportedly saying that he would return to "Game of Thrones" despite his character being killed in the previous season.

"Well, I'm not completely missing out on the next series. More than that I'm not going to say. You haven't seen the last of Tywin Lannister, is all I'll say," Dance says on a report from io9.

Earlier this month, news was released about shooting the controversial Cersei Lannister nude scene from the "ASoIaF" book series.

"Game of Thrones producers spent $200,000 shooting a nude scene with Lena Headey," according to a report from Mirror. The scene is described as one "(...) which sees her character walk stark naked out of a church and through town, and costs for filming the footage in Croatia was huge because of the extra staff needed", said the outlet.

Only four members were present during the shooting and 200 security guards protected the set in Croatia for the four-day shoot, noted Mirror.

"Game of Thrones" season 5 is scheduled to air in spring 2015.
