After suffering a hip injury and being a no-hitter last May, Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Josh Beckett has already announced his retirement at 34.

The 14-year MLB veteran, according to an AP Sports report on Yahoo, "threw a no-hitter in May" then was included in the disabled list two months ago due to a left hip impingement. He is reportedly a 6-6 with 2.88 ERA in 20 starts inclusive of the no-hitter last May 25 in Philadelphia.

Beckett was already placed in the disabled list last March for a bruised thumb then was included again in July also for a similar hip injury.

The announcement came after the Dodgers got eliminated from the National League Division Series last Tuesday night. He is set to undergo surgery for his hip in May but he has already missed most parts of that last season because he had a rib near his neck removed to ease thoracic outlet syndrome.

AP Sports noted that he holds a record of 138-106 and a 3.88 ERA. Beckett has also won the World Series with the Miami Marlins in 2003 and the Boston Red Sox in 2007. In 2012, he was then traded to the Dodgers from Boston. He is reportedly on the road to becoming a free agent this winter.

In an earlier interview with MLB.com, Beckett said that he decided on his retirement because of health concerns.

"I just don't see me going through that rehab and coming back to pitch at this point in my life," he explained, noting that he has already tried most options to aid in his recovery.

The pitcher also told ESPN after his possible surgery was announced: "At some point, you decide, 'Is this really worth trying to get myself ready for another season when you know the stuff that goes into it,'" he said last month. "It's not the pitching part that bothers you. I probably felt best on the days I pitched. It's the other days leading up to it," he added.

His intention to retire, according to ESPN, became obvious when he was a no-hitter in May. A separate Yahoo Sports report said that his being a no-hitter was a bump on Beckett's career especially that it was caused by his injuries. It added that the pitcher was a "very productive" MLB player before he sustained the hip injury a few months ago.

Beckett is expecting that he will be able to recover fully after his scheduled surgery as it seems that his health and physical condition are the prime concern now for the athlete.
