Texas police officers are searching for a 14-year-old who is suspected of trying to execute a teenaged human smuggler on the Texas border as part of an alleged drug cartel hit. The 14-year-old is believed to be an illegal immigrant who was previously deported. The news was reported by Texas news site Breitbart.

The Hidalgo County Sheriff's Office began their investigation on Sunday when they found a 16-year-old with a gunshot wound to the head inside of a crashed vehicle.  The victim survived the gunshot, but died Monday morning and was pronounced dead at a local hospital by Justice of the Peace Luis Garza. An autopsy has been ordered.

Authorities currently have a 14-year-old possible suspect. The individual was previously arrested and charged in juvenile court before being deported three weeks ago. Law enforcement also believes that this case may also have ties as a cartel hit.

Police have not released the name of the victim, but they have revealed that the teenager has a lengthy criminal history that includes several human smuggling arrests and deportations.

In October 2012, the victim drove a red Ford pickup filled with illegal immigrants from Guatemala and attempted to evade authorities.

The pursuit was finished near the border town of La Joya when Texas State Troopers fired several shots at the truck from a helicopter eventually blowing out its tires. Two of the people in the car were killed and one was wounded. Following the incident, DPS was forced to change its use of force.

Mexican and U.S. authorities have spent much of this year enforcing a more strict crackdown on cartel related crimes. An early report in 2014 by USD indicated that homicides in Mexico have decreased, but drug-related crimes and kidnappings remain on the rise. This is the second year in a row that cartel-related killings have decreased.

Last week Los Angeles authorities raided the Fashion District of the city, finding millions of dollars of cartel money in dozens of businesses. Furthermore, kidnapping cases are on pace to out do the more than 1,500 cases that plagued the country last year. The homicides that have been reported are largely attributed to the drug business of the cartel.

Despite the increase in law enforcement investigating the cartel, the same study reports that organized crime arrests do not appear to have produced larger spikes in violence.

No further details are yet available regarding the killing from Thursday.
