Motorola's unveiling event for its latest "portfolio of Moto products" is less than a day away, and even though the event is supposed to showcase four new devices, the Moto 360 figures to overshadow the other three products unveiled tomorrow. The reason being, the Moto 360 still looks like it's the only smartwatch worth buying, and that's including the recent announcements at IFA by ASUS, Samsung and LG regarding their upcoming smartwatch models.

According to its Google Plus page, Motorola Mobility will unveil their new line of products early tomorrow morning at 1 a.m. CT on Sept. 5. Apparently there will be a follow up event at 1:30 p.m. CT during which Motorola will host a Q&A session on Google Plus.

Many had expected Motorola to showcase the Moto 360 and the other new Moto products at Germany's IFA this week; however, Motorola opted to only allow media members to view the new devices in a closed-door event instead of allowing everyone at IFA to see them.

And this is just the latest in a string of puzzling moves Motorola has made with the 360 rollout every since it was announced last March. The Moto 360 was displayed at Google's I/O conference in June, yet without any details on specs, pricing or availability. At that time, Motorola simply said the device would be available later in the summer, but clearly that didn't happen. Since I/O, Motorola has essentially remained silent regarding their upcoming smartwatch, perhaps too silent.

Just today, new photos of the 360 leaked today by Wear Wizard, and show the device in what appears to be a charging dock but without a watch band. So it's a bit puzzling as to why Motorola has chosen to wait so long and eschew the venue for announcing the smartwatch that would have made the most sense, IFA. There were earlier rumors of production issues related to fitting the device's components into its circular frame; however, further details on such issues are scant.

At least Motorola is apparently releasing the Moto 360, or announcing it, before next week's expected iWatch unveiling, because at that point, whatever momentum the 360 has left probably won't matter. And that's a shame given all of the interest the device has generated. Had Motorola released it in August as was previously expected, it could have gained a significant stranglehold on the young smartwatch market, but instead the 360 now enters a crowded smartwatch market with as much uncertainty for success as any of its competitors.
