Texas Governor's Race: Abbott, Davis Enter Mudslinging Game

The contenders for Texas governor entered a mudslinging game.

The fight is between Republican Greg Abbott and Democrat Wendy Davis who both announced their candidacy for the upcoming gubernatorial elections in Texas. It seems that there will be more mudslinging in the weeks and months ahead of the elections.

Abbott said that Davis will push an extreme liberal agenda. Meanwhile, Davis stated that Abbott will herald Washington-style partisanship and austerity to Texas.

It seems that the candidates try their best to appeal and win gullible voters by simply attacking their opponent.

When Davis announced her candidacy, she didn't mention Abbott by name, but accused the current leadership in Austin, which is Republican, of "turning a deaf ear" to middle and low-income families.

"State leaders in power keep forcing people to opposite corners to prepare for a fight instead of coming together to get things done. Texans deserve better than failed leaders who dole out favors to friends and cronies behind closed doors. Texas has waited too long for a governor who knows that quid pro quo shouldn't be the status quo," she said.

Abbott retaliated and called Davis an extremist and said that she will impose "the kind of spending and regulation that's reckless for government."

One of the main issues in this year's campaign is abortion. Davis is considered a champion by groups supporting abortion rights such as Planned Parenthood who was quick to endorse the ex-Senator. Davis firmly stands against abortions after 20 weeks.

Abbott, on the other hand, opposes abortions in all circumstances, except when the health of the mother is in peril. He has said he would support a ban on abortions, even in cases of rape and incest. Some groups opposed this stand of the republicans.

Thus, pro-life groups like Texas Right to Life clearly support Abbott and began airing ads over the weekend against Davis.
