Photos from the set of the final instalment of the Hobbit trilogy, "The Hobbit: Battle of the Five Armies" have been released. The photos show film characters in complete get up and sets that have been primed to take us all back to middle Earth.

Over the franchise's official Twitter account, a first look picture was shared featuring two big characters of the film, namely, Sir Ian McKellen who plays Gandalf and Luke Evans as Bard the Bowman.

"First look at Gandalf & Bard the Bowman in #TheHobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies! @IanMcKellen @TheRealLukevans," said the tweet.

The photo shows McKellan and Evans looking off into something with what can only be assumed is surprise and apprehension. Could it be that this is a photo off an impending battle scene?

Bard being featured in the teaser photos could indicate that his role in the sequel could be larger than before, noted Business Insider.

Another photo, shared by Business Insider, shows Bard once again, but this time speaking intently to Legolas, brought to life by Orlando Bloom. Bloom sports his famed long locks as the champion elf while Evans is engaged in a conversation with him and we see a lot of activity happening in the background.

Warner Bros. will be conducting a major panel during the San Diego Comic Con and the company is expected to launch a teaser trailer for the film during the panel. It was recently confirmed by director, Peter Jackson, that a finished cut from the film was handed "over to the studio."

The finale of the popular trilogy has the following story line as shared by TheOneRing.net:

"The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies" brings to an epic conclusion the adventures of Bilbo Baggins, Thorin Oakenshield and the Company of Dwarves. Having reclaimed their homeland from the Dragon Smaug, the Company has unwittingly unleashed a deadly force into the world. Enraged, Smaug rains his fiery wrath down upon the defenseless men, women and children of Lake-town."

Actors lighting up the silver screen include Ian McKellen, Martin Freeman, Richard Armitage, Evangeline Lilly, Luke Evans, Benedict Cumberbatch, Cate Blanchett, and Orlando Bloom, to name a few.

Other teaser images released by the studio include snaps from its other upcoming film releases, "Exodus," "Goosebumps" & Judd Apatow's "Trainwreck." See the rest of the photos as compiled by IndieWire.com.

"The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies" will be released on December 17.
