One of America's best love tandems is teaming up again for a new movie that will test their prowess behind the camera.

Meg Ryan is set to star and direct "Ithaca," based on William Saroyan's 1942 novel, "The Human Comedy" while Tom Hanks will serve as the executive producer of the film, along with his production company, Playtone. The movie is described as a coming-of-age story during the time of the World War II.

CBS 6 reported that Virginia Governor Terry McAuliffe has confirmed plans to shoot a film in the Richmond-Petersburg area, that will be directed and starred in by Ryan this summer.

The Governor also revealed casting calls for hopeful actors and extras who want to get a chance to film a movie alongside two of the best Hollywood actors. There is a scheduled open casting call for male actors between the ages of 4 and 14 on Sunday 1 p.m. at 320 Hull Street in Richmond.

"We couldn't be happier that Meg Ryan has chosen Virginia as the location for her directorial debut," said Governor McAuliffe in a statement. "We are excited to have the opportunity to work with Meg Ryan and Tom Hanks on this film about an important time in American history."

"The welcome we've received from Governor McAuliffe and the Commonwealth of Virginia has been lovely," Ryan said in a press release as quoted by wavy.com . "We're happily surprised by the cinemagraphic opportunities, the talent of the filmaking community and the variety of resources at our disposal. We couldn't be more delighted to be here."

According to IMDb, the film's plot summary is as follows:

"In a small town in California's San Joaquin Valley, 14-year-old Homer Macauley is determined to be the best and fastest bicycle telegraph messenger anyone has ever seen. His older brother has gone to war, leaving Homer to look after his widowed mother, his older sister and his 4-year-old brother, Ulysses. And so it is that as spring turns to summer, 1942, Homer Macauley delivers messages of love, hope, pain... and death... to the good people of Ithaca. And Homer Macauley will grapple with one message that will change him forever - from a boy into a man. Based on Pulitzer Prize-winning author William Saroyan's 1943 novel, The Human Comedy, ITHACA is the quintessential wartime tale of the Home Front. It is a coming-of-age story about the exuberance of youth, the sweetness of life, the sting of death and the modesty and sheer goodness that lives in each and every one of us."

Hanks and Ryan have starred in a number of movies together. Their chemistry is undeniable given the success of the three films they appeared in together. Their first movie was 1990s "Joe vs the Volcano," followed by two of the most epic romantic-comedies of all time, "Sleepless in Seattle" in 1993 and "You've Got Mail" in 1998.
