While fans of "The Good Wife" know that Will Gardner can never be replaced, a series guest star has been promoted to fill the void left after the character's shocking death.

Guest star Matthew Goode has been promoted to series regular for the rest of season five, CBS recently announced.

Goode plays Finn Polmar, a new prosecutor in the State Attorney's Office. In the episode that shocked "Good Wife" fans everywhere, Will was gunned down after his client (Hunter Parrish) went on a shooting spree in the courtroom.

Goode's Finn tried to save Will, but sadly failed.

Executive producer Robert King told TVLine that Finn will be in the middle of the "political crossfire" of the events following the shooting as the State Attorney's office searches for someone to blame.

Goode has appeared in "Watchmen," "Leap Year" and "Match Point."

On the latest episode of the series, Alicia, Diane and the rest of the characters dealt with the aftermath of Will's tragic death.

In "The Last Call," Alicia (Julianna Margulies) gets news of her former lover's death, while Diane (Christine Baranski) breaks the devastating news to the firm. Alicia goes to Lockhart/Gardner, and she and Diane both break down crying.

Kalinda (Archie Panjabi) goes to the crime scene where Will was shot, where an ex-girlfriend, who is a police officer, is interviewing the officer whose gun was stolen from Jeffrey.

Jeffrey is in jail, and his new lawyer is pleading insanity.

Alicia feels horrible, telling Diane that Will's case was supposed to be hers. She also begins to worry that Will was angry at her, but Diane denies it, saying they both loved each other deeply.

The judge then walks Alicia through what happened, telling her that Finn Polmar dragged Will out of the crossfire, and was also shot. Meanwhile, Alicia keeps playing a message Will left on her phone over and over, trying to figure out what it could have been about.

While everyone is mourning Will's death, Cary (Matt Czuchry) is trying to deal with a deposition that Alicia was supposed to handle. The case involves a defendant who alleges she was fired for being too attractive.

Kalinda then goes to visit Jeffery in jail, and asks him why he snapped. Jeffrey says he didn't mean to shoot Will, and simply wants to die. She brings him his belt to assist in his suicide, but stops herself, deciding he should be forced to live with the consequences of this actions.

Alicia visits Finn at the hospital, who tells her that Will was angry at Damian, who stole his clients, not at her.

At the end of the hour, Alicia arrives home and talks with Peter (Chris Noth), but she just keeps playing Will's message over and over in her mind. She chooses to believe that Will called to tell her he wanted her back, and that he only wanted to be with her.

On the next episode, "A Material World," "Alicia and Diane consider merging their firms in the wake of Will's death, even as they take opposite sides in a contentious divorce case. Meanwhile, Alicia offers her assistance to Finn when it becomes clear that the State's Attorney is looking for a scapegoat in the Jeffrey Grant case."

TVLine also hints that Damian Boyle (Jason O'Mara) will make his final season five appearance in the next episode, which will be on April 13.

Watch the promo below for "A Material World," which airs Sunday, April 13 at 9 p.m. EDT on CBS.
