The Tampa Bay Rays could trade David Price anytime soon after signing young pitcher Chris Archer to a six-year contract extension on Wednesday.

Archer, who posted a 3.22 ERA last season, signed a $25 million deal that could go as high as $43.75 million, and Sports World Report indicated that the deal could signal the end of Price's stint with the Rays.

"The move has had many speculating that it is a precursor to the Rays trading David Price, which is something that has been speculated about all offseason and seems to be a near guarantee," Sports World Report noted.

Price, who went 10-8 with a 3.33 ERA last season, was involved in several trade talks during the offseason, but the Rays reportedly held on to the left-hander after not getting attractive offers.

But now that Archer's future with the Rays is already secured, sources suggested that Tampa Bay will be more open to dealing the 28-year-old pitcher to interested teams like the Texas Rangers, Toronto Blue Jays, LA Dodgers, NY Yankees and the Seattle Mariners.

The Mariners reportedly made a strong push to acquire Price in the offseason, but negotiations went down after the Rays allegedly asked for Taijuan Walker in the deal.

The Mariners backed out of the deal reportedly because they want to get a long-term commitment from Price before giving up Walker, but the veteran pitcher reportedly expressed no interest in signing a contract extension.

Sources indicated that the two teams could revisit the talks, and Price could be more willing to commit to the Mariners at this point, especially now that Seattle is showing signs of improvement, starting the season with three-straight victories.

"Price stated he wouldn't sign an extension with the team basically killed any chance of him going to the Mariners. But that was the offseason and now that the team is 3-0, if they end up having a good year with Robinson Cano and King Felix, maybe Price has a change of heart and Okays a deal to the Pacific Northwest," Sports World Report added.
