Rapper and VH1 reality TV star Benzino is recovering in a Massachusetts hospital after allegedly being shot by his nephew during his mother's funeral.

Benzino, whose real name is Raymond Scott, was shot twice by his nephew Gai Scott while he was driving in his mother's funeral procession on Saturday.

"I looked over, there was a car, and all I saw was a gun shooting at me," the Boston native told The Boston Globe.

"I was trying to duck and dodge, drive around it, maneuver the car. . . . I was bleeding a lot. I was driving with my thumb in my shoulder to try to stop the bleeding."

Initially, Benzino had planned to skip his mother's funeral due to a bitter family fight over money and the care of his late mother.

"I didn't want to be around them," he said. "I felt like, I didn't want any problems. I can love my mother and there doesn't have to be any problems with family."

However, the 48-year-old "Love & Hip Hop: Atlanta" star said that he happened to run across his mother's procession while he was driving south on Route 3 to meet a friend in Plymouth. That's when his nephew pulled up alongside of him and shot him in the upper arm while another bullet grazed his back, said the Plymouth County District Attorney's Office said in a statement, according to Chron.com.

After being hit, Benzino said he got out of the car and ran away. A moment later, another relative driving in the procession stopped to pick him up and brought him to the Duxbury Police station. He was later transferred to the South Shore Hospital in South Weymouth where he was listed in good condition Sunday morning, according to a spokeswoman.

The shooter was taken into custody and charged with assault with intent to murder. He is scheduled to be arraigned Monday in the Plymouth District Court.

In 2006, Benzino left The Source, a popular hip-hop magazine he started with friend David Mays, and launched Hip-Hop Weekly, which chronicles the lives of urban music stars.

Benzino's girlfriend posted the following photo of him on Sunday night.
