Oscar winning actress Lupita Nyong'o might have just nabbed a role in one of the most anticipated sequels ever. Nyong'o is rumored to have been cast as the female lead in "Star Wars: Episode VII" as Obi-Wan Kenobi's descendant.

The actress apparently met with director J.J. Abrams a few weeks before the Oscars, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Other than her potential role in the film, not much is known about "Episode VII." Abrams hasn't said much about what to expect from the the movie since signing on to direct.

The majority of "Episode VII" news has come in the form of casting rumors circulating about other actors trying to land roles; Lena Headey, who spoke about the auditioning process, revealed she was turned down for a part in the film.

"Episode VII" will take place 30 years after the events of "Star Wars: Episode VI Return of the Jedi," which was released in 1983. There will be a new trio of young leads, but some of the actors from the original movies are also expected to pop up, according to the movie's official site.

The movie will start shooting in the U.K. in May.

Jesse Plemons ("Friday Night Lights," "Breaking Bad") has also been called a contender for a role in the film. British actors Ed Speleers and John Boyega's names have also been tossed around.

Adam Driver ("Girls") is also in final negotiations to play a villain.

"Rumor has it that almost every actor in the world has been cast in this movie, but so far, the official cast member that we've confirmed, the only one, is R2D2. Played by R2D2," said Disney's Bob Iger at the company's shareholders meeting, according to Variety.

He didn't go into much more detail, but added that the team is well into production.

"From the concept art that I've seen so far, 'Star Wars: Episode VII' really looks amazing," he added. "For now, that's it. I'll get in trouble if I say more."

"Star Wars: Episode VII" is scheduled for release on Dec. 18, 2015.
