Los Angeles Angels outfielder Mike Trout downplayed the news of an upcoming six-year, $150 million contract extension, calling the reports "pretty funny."

The 22-year-old baseball phenom has long been rumored to be the recipient of one of the most lucrative extension offers in the history of Major League Baseball. On Sunday, several media sources indicated Trout would sign a six-year deal worth $150 million, a contract which would allow the outfielder to become a free agent at the ripe age of 29.

"The Angels and Trout's representatives have yet to reach agreement on the years or dollars in a new contract, although a report Sunday outlined a deal in the range of six years and $150 million. The Angels prefer a longer term; a six-year deal would buy out three years of free agency but still give Trout the ability to test the market at 29," LA Times reported.

However, Trout was quick to dismiss the report in an interview with the Los Angeles Times on Monday morning.

"The numbers they throw out...It's crazy what people are saying, and throwing out numbers like that. I'm in a spot where I wouldn't have thought I would be before my career was over," Trout told the Los Angeles Times.

Angels manager Mike Scioscia gave credit to Trout for being well grounded despite the attention he generated on and off the field. Scioscia said the latest rumor of a mega-million contract extension has not affected his attitude so far, stressing that the All-Star outfielder is currently focused on baseball at Spring Training.

"He hasn't flinched," Scioscia said, according to The Los Angeles Times. "He's very grounded. He has everything sorted out the way a young player has to have everything sorted out with his priorities.

"If nobody was paying attention to him, he'd be fine with it. If everybody was paying attention to him, he'd be fine with it."

Trout batted .323 with 27 homers and 97 RBIs last season with the Angels. Heading into his third professional season, Trout has already career batting percentage of .314 with 62 homers and 196 RBIs.
