Deep Down will not include playable female characters due to story reasons, according to one of the producers of the game.

Capcom's highly anticipated next-gen game was previewed during a livestream hosted by Nico Nico that featured producer Kazunori Sugiura. According to a tranlsated report from Dualshockers, players will not be able to make a female avatar; for storyline purposes the character must be male. It was also announced that the story for Deep Down will play out in chapters.

Capcom also announced that the difficulty will be fixed throughout the course of Deep Down. While the demo for the game at the Tokyo Game Show was set on Casual difficulty, this feature will be removed from the final game. Capcom will be able to modify the game's difficulty after launch by adding patches and updates to the game as needed.

As for the weapons found in the game, Sugiura revealed that, at launch, four different weapons will be available, with more added later through updates and DLC. So far only three weapons (spear, greatsword, and the sword and shield combo) have been revealed, meaning that Capcom still has to announce a new weapon for Deep Down. The reason for the limited number of weapons available at launch, according to Sugiura, is that each weapon drastically changes the way the players fight and Capcom needs time to make sure each weapon is properly balanced.

Sudiura also announced that Deep Down will be able to use Remote Play on the PlayStation 4, meaning Deep Down can be streamed to the PlayStation Vita and played on that device as well. Sugiura also revealed that players will not be able to dash to the side to avoid attacks, so players may have a difficult time avoiding danger.

While there is plenty of new information to digest from this livestream, one critical detail that was left out was when Deep Down will actually launch. In addition, though this news confirms that the game is coming to the PlayStation 4, it is unclear what other consoles will receive Deep Down as well.
