The Seattle Mariners are reportedly "back in business" to sign free-agent All-Star slugger Nelson Cruz, a source close to situation reported on Friday.

The Mariners might have already made their mind up to sign Cruz as reports indicate the ballclub could present an offer to the hard-hitting batter as early as Friday.

"Just yesterday, the reports indicated that the Mariners were 'back in business' in their pursuits of Nelson Cruz and Fernando Rodney, and their pursuit of Cruz appears to be picking up," reported MLB Trade Rumors.

"MLB Network Radio's Jim Bowden said on the air today that the Mariners could make an offer to Cruz as early as today [Twitter link from MLBN Radio]," the site added.

According to Bowden, Cruz is drawing interest from at least three teams—the Mariners, Baltimore Orioles and Texas Rangers—but Seattle appears to be the most intriguing destination for the two-time MLB All-Star and one-time ACLS MVP.

If the market completely crashes for him, Bowden predicted Cruz to re-join the Rangers, which already acquired another power-hitter in Prince Hitter in a trade with the Detroit Tigers.

"Nelson Cruz market remains 1. Sea 2. Balt 3. TX w/Rangers only a fall-back if market crash & smaller "pillow" deal...Sea clearly best fit," Bowden stated.

The Mariners have surprisingly been quiet since they pulled off a blockbuster signing of All-Star slugger Robinson Cano at the start of the offseason. General Manager Jack Zduriencik then made a couple of solid moves by signing Corey Hart and trading for Logan Morrison, but since then, the Mariners have been passive on the free-agency front.

"Reports on the Mariners' ability to spend (or lack thereof) have gone back and forth since the team's blockbuster signing of Robinson Cano earlier this offseason."

"GM Jack Zduriencik quickly followed that mega-deal up by signing Corey Hart and swinging a trade for Logan Morrison, but since that time all has been quiet for the Mariners in terms of significant additions," MLB Trade Rumors.

Many MLB writers consider the 33-year old Cruz as the most powerful left-handed batter available on the market. The Mariners' possible acquisition of Cruz (.268 with 774 hits, 157 home runs and 489 RBIs) would surely give them another long ball weapon alongside Cano.

"Cruz is the most powerful bat left on the market, which would make him a welcome addition to a Mariners lineup that is in need of some thump even after the Cano deal," the site added.
