Minecraft has been one of the top selling games in recent years, managing to sell over 13 million copies on the PC and 10 million copies on the Xbox 360 as of December 2013. Now, with the game now available on the PlayStation 3 as well, Mojang has announced that the game has already sold over one million copies on the new platform since being released on Dec. 17.

Mojang announced the news through their official blog, and the developer thanked fans for continuing to make the game a success:

"Just wanted to let you know that Minecraft on PS3 recently sold over 1 million copies (that has to be some kind of record on PSN, no?). It is crazy considering the game was released just before Christmas last year. We are super grateful for the support and we are very thankful for your dedication and I hope you will like the future updates we have planned for you..."

This is huge news for Minecraft fans, as it shows that the wildly popular game has not run out of fans quite yet, and that people are willing to try out the game on new platforms despite the fact that the game has been available on the PC and Xbox 360 for so long. Considering that Minecraft was the ninth best selling game of 2013, the game looks to have lots of life left in it as the game begins to migrate to other consoles in the near future.

The launch of the PlayStation 3 is just the first step in a series of launch dates for Minecraft, as it is coming to several other platforms in 2014. In addition to the PlayStation 3 the game is also coming to the PlayStation 4 as well. Xbox One users will also get the chance to play some next gen Minecraft action, and the game was one of the first announced for the new system. And for those who have enjoyed the mobile version of the game a PlayStation Vita port of Minecraft is in the works for more on the go action.

Minecraft has gone from a cult classic indie game on the PC to one of the most popular games in recent memory. The game allows players to create whatever they choose by mining materials and then crafting them into their own personal castles or monuments. The game is infamous for users creating scale models of pop culture icons such as ships from Star Trek and Star Wars as well as allowing people to make their own personal mansions.
