The Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD Remaster Collection is set to be released in the United States in March, but the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita bundle is already out in Japan. The game collection not only gives a graphical facelift to the game, but will include a brand new 30 minute audio drama that takes place after Final Fantasy X-2. Kotaku has details about this new content and how it could potentially set up a new game for the popular PlayStation 2 series.

The audio drama is officially called Final Fantasy X -Will-, and takes place one year after the events of Final Fantasy X-2. The epilogue follows two completely new characters, Chuami and Kurgum, who are members of the new Spiran Council. These new characters have been charged with getting Yuna, one of the main characters of the series, to help them address a problem with the Farplane. During the adventure of Chuami and Kurgum several of the characters from both Final Fantasy X and X-2 appear, and a new threat appears to be looming despite the defeat of Sin. Along the way not only will the new content check in on older characters and the world of the game but will allow fans to get to know the two viewpoint characters and their backstory, which could lead to a new game in the series despite the large gap between titles.

The amount of character information given during Final Fantasy X -Will- also seems to show that Square Enix may be setting up another entry into the fabled series. After all, instead of focusing solely on existing characters or just having Yuna or another main character narrate the audio episode the company created two new characters and gave them backstories explained in the new content. With this new content teasing future event, perhaps Square Enix is waiting to see how well the HD collection of the series sells before committing to Final Fantasy X-3. With Square Enix currently working on Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy 13, Kingdom Hearts 3, and Final Fantasy 15, the company may wait for quite some time before starting a new game in the Final Fantasy X series.
In any case, North American fans will be able to check out the new audio drama when the Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD Remaster Collection becomes available on March 18. The collection will feature new boss fights and dungeons found only in the ultimate editions of the game that were only available in Japan.
