As the Lenten Season is about to start and most people will begin to fast, some celebrate first by devouring sumptuous meals, including everybody's favorite breakfast food for Pancake Day.

Pancake Day, also known as Shrove Tuesday, comes from the Old English word "shrive," which means to "absolve," according to The Independent. Some devoted Christians believe that this is a day for repentance, but some say it is a perfect day to enjoy foods before the 45-day Lent period begins.

It is also celebrated as Sprengidagur or Bursting Day, where Icelandic families eat salted lamb or horse and split pea soup as part of their tradition. It is called Mardi Gras or Fat Tuesday for the French People, where they eat everything they want as it is the last day before they restrain themselves.

For Latin America, it is known as Carnival and becomes like a celebration with colorful costumes, parades and partying.

With many countries celebrating Pancake Day, many are still puzzled as to how to cook the perfect pancake.

Cooking pancakes are as easy as counting, one, two, and three. One only needs to know the basics to make a good hotcake. Here are the ingredients as noted by Irish Mirror Online.

  • 200g/7oz plain flour
  • 350-400ml/12-14fl oz milk. For a thinner, lighter pancake you can use half milk and half water
  • 2 large eggs to be lightly whisked
  • 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil
  • A pinch of salt

For the procedure:

Put the flour in a large bowl and make a place for the milk and eggs in the center.

Whisk the milk and eggs first, and then include the flour. Continue beating until you have a smooth batter.

Add one tablespoon of oil and whisk evenly.

Put a drizzle of oil into the pan and spread it around.

Heat the pan over a medium fire for a minute.

Cook the pancake for 30 to 40 seconds.

Toss the pancake if the underside is already golden-brown.

Then, voila! Add your favorite toppings, like the classic lemon and sugar, peanut butter and banana, chocolate spread and strawberries, bacon and maple syrup, ice cream and peaches, ham and cheese, honey, yogurt and blueberries or jam.
