Just when you thought the only way to get extra "Star Wars Battlefront" content was by purchasing exorbitant DLC packages, Electronic Arts occasionally swoops to remind everyone about free updates.

On Tuesday, the California-based video game publisher shared details of the "Star Wars Battlefront" January Update. The new patch will arrive on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Microsoft Windows anytime this week.

As per EA's official forum post, the comprehensive update brings improvements to game modes, weapons, vehicles and playable characters. It also fixes a problem where players get stuck on rocks or suddenly freeze after tapping the melee button too many times.

Additional content include new skins for Luke Skywalker and Han Solo while they are on Hoth. GameSpot noted that the costumes are based from the 1980 classic "The Empire Strikes Back." Gamers can expect to play a blue lightsaber-wielding Luke Skywalker and a pre-carbonite frozen Han Solo.

New daily challenges have also been added as well as options for creating private matches and choosing server sites. The new Tatooine map includes new online multiplayer modes such as Blast, Drop Zone, Droid Run, Heroes vs Villains and Hero Hunt.

EA this week also shared the initial details of four upcoming paid-expansion packs for "Star Wars Battlefront." Forbes pointed out that each DLC is expected to cost around $50, just as much as a full video game. The premium DLCs are the following:

  •  "Star Wars Battlefront: Outer Rim" (March 2016)
  •  "Star Wars Battlefront: Bespin" (Summer 2016)
  •  "Star Wars Battlefront: Death Star" (Fall 2016)
  •  "Star Wars Battlefront: Expansion Pack 4 - Title TBA" (Early 2017)

With regards to free updates, Polygon indicated that the next one will arrive in February, towing a new Hoth multiplayer map with one bonus mission. The new Hoth will be much bigger than its predecessor in order to accommodate new game modes like Walker Assault, Turning Point, Supremacy and Fighter Squadron.

Another Tatooine map with Survival mode will be added a month after, in March. It will be joined by a multiplayer Endor map that supports three new game modes: Walker Assault, Supremacy and Turning Point.

"As we said back in November, the release of Star Wars Battlefront was just the beginning," said EA's senior producer Sigurlina Ingvarsdottir. "Our team has been listening to your feedback and building a calendar of new content and tuning changes we will be making to the game throughout 2016."

"Star Wars Battlefront" released on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Microsoft Windows in mid-November 2015. IGN called the game "a master class in aesthetic authenticity."
