Notorious Mexican drug kingpin, Joaquin "El Chapo" Guzmán Loera, had a total of 46 conjugal visits prior to him escaping a maximum-security prison in July.

According to Huffington Post, this was the revelation of Mexican magazine Proceso writer journalist, Anabel Hernández. His claim was later on supported by another Proceso report saying that federal authorities were aware of the details of the drug lord's plan to escape the detention facility but chose not to act on the matter.

The same report explained that Mexican laws dictate that only one person (either a spouse or a partner) is allowed per inmate to solicit authorization for conjugal visits.

It added that the names of those who visited the head of the Sinaloa cartel have not been released by the government but it claimed that one of the most frequent visitors was his wife, Emma Coronel Aispuro.

Complex noted that the Altiplano Federal Prison, where El Chapo was detained, was known for "high conjugal visit rates." It added, however, that only about 20 percent of the detainees in the said facility enjoy the privilege.

"The daily routine of the drug lord in prison was far from a punishment," Hernández earlier wrote in his Proceso article.

Last July, El Chapo managed to escape prison for the second time by digging a tunnel from the shower area of his cell all the way to a house still being constructed about a mile away from the prison, CNN said.

This was El Chapo's second time to escape detention since he also disappeared from a high-security facility in 2001 using a laundry cart. He was arrested again in 2014.

The manhunt for the drug lord has caused trouble in the Sinaloa state with marine operation attacks bothering families claiming that they are looking for the most wanted personality.

About 30 people have already been arrested in connection with his jailbreak, including the prison governor and a number of guards.

In an update, BBC said Manuel Trillo, the Mexican businessman who allegedly financed El Chapo's escape, is now behind bars.

Trillo is now serving his sentence inside the same jail where El Chapo carefully planned his escape.

"According to investigators, Mr Trillo is the financial operator of the Sinaloa cartel and bankrolled Guzman's escape," added BBC.

The businessman is also believed to be using illicit money to buy properties from 2012 to the present using different names.

BBC also said that the drug kingpin's associates have been planning the escape immediately after El Chapo's arrest.
