In a film like "Suicide Squad," where iconic villains are recruited to be heroes, Joker -- being among Batman's most iconic nemesis, should dress to impress, and Jared Leto, who is the latest to take over the role, has pretty big shoes to fill. After all, he's following the footsteps of Jack Nicholson and Heath Ledger, both of whom did justice as the psychotic prince of crime.

Leto's Joker, whose more modern take has already impressed die-hard Batman fans with his tattoos and crazy-eyed creepy grin, is looking to make former Jokers proud.

In an Instagram post, the 43-year-old actor showed a photo featuring Nicholson and Ledger posing as their versions of The Joker, with an overset text reading, "Don't worry, Leto will make us proud."

Like Ledger's casting, Movie Web noted that fans were initially doubtful about Leto as the Clown Prince of Crime, but things have been turning and people are starting to embrace his take on the iconic villain. The website noted that from the bits and pieces that we have seen about Leto's Joker, his version is different from that of his predecessors. However, also unlike his predecessors, it seems that he won't be getting so much airtime; rumors say he's spending most of the film in a jail cell.

Not that his limited exposure stopped Leto from going all-out as the character. His commitment for the role is also very apparent on set. So much so that co-star, Will Smith, who plays Deadshot in the film, said that he never actually met Leto yet -- his interactions with him has always been as The Joker.

Smith said in an interview with Beats1 Radio Station, "I've never actually met Jared Leto. We worked together for six months and we've never exchanged a word outside of 'action' and 'cut.' We've never said 'hello.' I've only spoken to him as Deadshot and him as The Joker."

In fact, Smith thinks that when they see each other again, they may need to introduce themselves. He shared, "I literally have not met him yet. So the first time I see him will be, 'Hey, Jared, what's up? Will, hey man, how you doing? Nice to meet you.' Not a single word exchanged off-camera. He was all in on The Joker!"

The star-studded cast of "Suicide Squad" also includes Joel Kinnaman as Rick Flagg, Jai Courtney as Boomerang, Cara Delevigne as Enchantress, Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, and Viola Davis as Amanda Waller. The film will hit theaters on August 5, 2016.
