League of Legends is one of the biggest eSports games around, with thousands playing the game every day. However, some Reddit users have complained about the game, causing the president of Riot Games to respond.

When some game users complained about the lack of a new client for season four of League of Legends and called developer Riot Games "money hungry," Marc Merrill, president and co-founder of Riot Games, took issue with accusations that the company is greedy.

"It's pretty frustrating when people try to position us as greedy. Millions upon millions of our players spend zero dollars on league and enjoy it endlessly. We're COMPLETELY OK with this. Greedy how? You do not have to spend money, it is completely opt-in," wrote Merrill.

In addition to allowing the game to be downloaded for free, Merrill also points out how much money Riot Games invests in the eSports scene to help the growth of the scene:

"We spend tens of millions of dollars building a pro-esports scene to help some of our best players become global superstars who make hundreds of thousands of dollars."

Merrill also pointed out how much entertainment per hour League of Legends can offer players compared to other games:

"If you compare the price of League of Legends entertainment per hour to every other form of media, we're the lowest around."

Finally, the Riot Games president defended his staff, and emphasized the company's passion for League of Legends and the gaming industry in general.

"We play the sh** out of League of Legends. When servers go down, we flip out. When we don't deliver on something we promised, we flip out (Magma chamber where?) and change the world internally. When we overreach on legal language with eSports contracts to prevent competitors from paying our pros to promote their games, we acknowledge the error and change it immediately...We train our entire company to drive towards engagement, meaning, make cool sh** and deliver value. And if people play enough because they love what we do, then they will want to spend money."

While some may feel as though Riot Games is losing its way, League of Legends has hundreds of thousands of users that play every day and enjoy the content that Riot Games delivers.
