Ex-New York Yankees player Derek Jeter has announced his recent engagement in an essay about his dog.

An Associated Press report published by Yahoo Sports revealed that when the former MLB player introduced his dog named Kane, he also revealed about his engagement to Sports Illustrated swimsuit model Hannah Davis.

In revealing his updated status, Jeter reportedly dished that his 1-year-old Italian mastiff was a "gift last year from my fiancee."

"After I retired, I didn't expect I'd go from one job right to another. Meet Kane. Kane is an Italian Mastiff... I had no idea what I was in for as a new dog owner. He was a Christmas gift last year from my fiancee, whose family had Mastiffs growing up. I've never owned a pet in my life," Jeter was quoted by Chron as saying.

The same report said that rumors recently circulated that he asked Davis the question after they dated for three years.

PageSix said that after the engagement, the stunning model showed off her engagement ring last Monday when she walked along Fifth Avenue with her mother.

"The eye-popping ring features either a classic round or cushion cut diamond that's between 4 and 6 carats, a handful of jewelers in the Diamond District estimated," noted the same report adding that the ring could cost between $150,000 and $200,000.

It was added by Daily Mail that Davis also showcased her expensive ring during the 49th annual Country Music Association Awards which happened on Wednesday night.

One of the first people to know about the engagement was Jeter's close friend Jorge Posada, who told the New York Post that the former revealed to him his plan to finally settle down.

"I just got engaged," was reportedly Jeter's message to Posada but the former Yankees catcher said that he is still not sure if he will be part of the former MLB player's wedding.

"I'm really happy for him, she's amazing. We love her and we look forward to that day. I was just hoping that's he's happy and it looks like he's happy," Posada added.

This is also a breakthrough in the personal life of Jeter, who has been romantically linked to big names like singer Mariah Carey, actresses Jessica Alba, Jessica Biel and Minka Kelly.

After his retirement last year, a separate Daily Mail report said that Jeter was spotted enjoying time with Davis while having coffee.

Fans Share added that Jeter has also earlier revealed plans of getting married after he said goodbye to the sport.

"I was too selfish to be able to juggle a family and kids. But I look forward to it happening. I just know that I ... couldn't have done it while I was playing. I was ... too selfish, I guess," Jeter added.
