Emilio and Gloria Estefan's new Broadway musical "On Your Feet!" doesn't just highlight the career achievements of the couple; it also celebrates a nation made up of immigrants.

The musical comes after the tough and controversial stance of Republican presidential candidates against immigrants, Fox News Latino wrote. According to Gloria, 58, fear always rears its ugly head whenever immigrants are negatively mentioned in campaign trails.

"We've been around long enough already to have gone through several election cycles. Every single time, fear gets brought into the equation," said Gloria, as quoted by the news outlet. "This is a great balance because we need to remind people, 'Hey, we're just people.'"

She continued, "It doesn't matter where you come from. Unless you're a Native American Indian, you're not from here. Somewhere down the road, you came from somewhere else. It's always the last person in that gets bashed."

The Estefans sold over 100 million records, won more than two dozen Grammy Awards, and performed in sold out concert venues globally. The musical features several Estefan hits such as "Conga," "Rhythm is Gonna Reach You," "Mi Tierra," and "1-2-3," as well as an original song penned by Gloria and her 21-year-old daughter, Emily Estefan, Broadway World listed.

"On Your Feet!" tells the story of how the singer and the producer met, how they fought for crossover success, and how they handled interfamily disputes and a bus crash that nearly killed Gloria, Broadway World noted.

Emilio, 62, said that immigrants don't take America for granted, and that they want to "make a contribution," Fox News Latino added. Emilio helped launch the stellar careers of Latino artists, such as Jennifer Lopez, Ricky Martin, and Shakira.

Josh Segarra portrays Emilio in the musical, while Broadway newcomer Ana Villafañe plays Gloria. Speaking about her "On Your Feet!" counterpart, Gloria said that she wanted someone who could interpret her life, adding that Villafañe "didn't particularly sound" like her but it didn't matter because she drew them in, the news outlet noted.

Other cast members are Andréa Burns, Alma Cuervo, Alexandria Suarez, Eduardo Hernandez, Karmine Alers, Yassmin Alers, David Baida, Natalie Caruncho, Henry Gainza, Linedy Genao, Carlos E. Gonzalez, Nina Lafarga, Genny Lis Padilla, Omar Lopez-Cepero, Hector Maisonet, Marielys Molina, Doreen Montalvo, Liz Ramos, Eliseo Roman, Luis Salgado, Marcos Santana, Martín Solá, Brett Sturgis, Eric Ulloa, Tanairi Vasquez, and Lee Zarrett, Broadway World listed.

The musical is directed by two-time Tony Award winner Jerry Mitchell and choreographed by Olivier Award winner Sergio Trujillo, the news outlet added. "On Your Feet!" opens on Broadway on Thursday, Nov. 5. Preview performances kicked off on Oct. 5 at the Marquis Theatre.
