In its first year, CW's hit supernatural drama "The Vampire Diaries" had a lot of hot and racy scenes, which, as MTV noted, significantly dwindled in the later seasons as the show put more emphasis on mythology.

However, now that Nina Dobrev is out of the show (and therefore, no Elena), it seems that TVD is ready to get back to its roots of "racy, weird stuff"because it's really more simple. With the Heretics being vampire baddies, there will be less time poring over mythologies and back stories, and fans can just enjoy the vampire stories.

Also, TVD is back to a time when Damon is single and brooding while Stefan is in again in love. This means that fans will get to see the brothers as they were in Season 1 and 2 --- Damon with his devil-may-care attitude and bad-boy punk that girls fell in love with, and Stefan is free from the 150-year love triangle that he and Damon always seem to entangle themselves in.

Finally, unlike the last seasons with the cast in college and usually out of Mystic Falls, season 7 will put the show back to their beloved hometown.

Unfortunately, the glaringly missing Elena is going to be a big change in the series. Sure, season 6 showed her in a coma, but it seems that she will be sleeping in that casket for a very long time. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Dobrev confirmed that she will no longer be appearing in the seventh season. "That chapter is closed, sadly - bittersweet."

However, as the International Business Times noted, the show specifically wrote Dobrev's character off in a way that she can still come back to the series. "We would have loved Nina to stay. She did a great job for the six years she was on the show and she's welcome anytime," CW President Mark Pedowitz shared with TV Line about Dobrev's exit.

The Delena heartbreak is also apparent in the new Season 7 poster, which showed the Salvatore brothers against a gloomy Virginia sky, with the words "heartbreak is eternal" hanging over their heads.

TVD season 7 will see Stefan (Paul Wesley) and Caroline (Candice King) in a new relationship while Bonnie (Kat Graham) and Damon (Ian Salvatore) mourn the loss of Elena. When they're not fighting the new baddies, that is.

"The Vampire Diaries" will return for its new season on October 7 at 8 pm on The CW.
