Donald Trump is anything but humble and even with the latest poll results, he is insistent that he can still win over black voters.

In a report by Reuters, Trump, who has been criticized by rivals and the media over his comments about minority groups, said on Wednesday that he is the rare Republican who can win over the black votes.

Speaking at a meeting in South Carolina, Trump cited a poll from SurveyUSA showing that he has the votes of 25 percent of the black respondents in a match-up against Democratic front-runner, Hillary Clinton. According to Trump, this number shows that he could win the general election.

"Generally, Republicans do not do well with African-Americans," the business mogul said. "I have a lot of friends, African-Americans in New York, they say, 'You're going to get most of the vote.' I was actually disappointed with the 25 percent," he also noted.

Other numbers weren't as generous. In a Quinnipiac University poll last August, it was shown that Trump only had 3 percent of the black voters supporting him, when pitted against Clinton. However, despite his low poll results, of the 15 Republican candidates, Trump still fared best among black voters in the recent Reuters/Ipsos poll.

How did he do it? The Daily Beast cited Donald E. Scoggins of the Republicans for Black Empowerment, who said that "Donald Trump has a certain swagger about him that I think registers with people. Especially if he is talking about trying to make government work for the people. I think Trump's support is primarily personality driven."

He also had a brand name recognition working for him. Trump has been a household name in real estate business and other candidates can only hope of establishing such recognition at this point. He also has a commonly used tactic to create his support base, which he has already mastered.

While his rally against undocumented immigrants is shocking to most, it helped him create a large support base among conservative white Americans and black Americans who have been hit badly by the economic downfall in recent years. Scoggins added, "Illegal immigration is resonating with black Americans because Trump's saying that the kind of jobs that these people are taking are maybe the ones that black Americans would have gotten."

Trump feels victorious, but The Washington Post noted that at this point, Trump is merely cherry-picking, and polls this early does not show how much his tirades are hurting his cause. What do you think?
